Hildo J. Lamb

Prof. dr. Hildo J. Lamb, MD, PhD (1969) is professor of radiology and director of the Cardio Vascular Imaging Group (CVIG) at Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. Clinical focus is on cardiovascular and thoracic radiology.

He is actively involved in scientific research in the field of cardiovascular and body imaging. The CVIG hosts more than 25 PhD-Students. His main focus is on development of cardiovascular MR imaging techniques with fast conversion to clinical application, including Molecular and Metabolic Imaging, 3D imaging, fast acquisition techniques and MR spectroscopy. His main research focus is currently on diseases related to congenital heart disease and obesity/diabetes mellitus. He was study director of 2 triple-blind randomised clinical trials (Magna Victoria). He is principle investigator (PI) of a large multicentre European study on liver steatosis (Radical). He is PI of a study funded by the Dutch Heart Foundation (RADAR) on earlier detection of aortic aneurysm and rupture risk. He is PI of the imaging platform of the Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity (NEO) study. Recently he obtained a large EU grant for development of molecular MR imaging by developing a new contrast agent based on 19F nanoparticles (NOVA-MRI). He published over 300 peer reviewed scientific papers, Sum of the Times Cited 21289, H-index 69, i10-index 183.

He is chairman of the scientific committee of the Department of Radiology LUMC, Leiden, The Netherlands. He is deputy editor of cardiovascular imaging for J Magn Reson Imag. He is board member of the Dutch society for radiology (Science and International affairs), and was board member of the Dutch section for cardiovascular radiology for past 10 years. He is member of the cardiovascular scientific program committee for the RSNA. He is board member (secretary) of the Netherlands Heart Days (NHD). He is founder and owner of the Radiology News Network (RNN): anchor.fm/radiologica.

He is Dutch representative in the UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) section Radiology and member of the scientific board of the ESR for the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR). Past decades he has served several positions for ESR, including the ‘ESR Quality, Safety and Standards committee’, ‘ESR Research committee’, ESR-UEMS leadership meetings, and as invited speaker and chairman for many ECR meetings. He is AI consultant for Royal Philips.
